There were more than a quarter billion opioid prescriptions written for medical patients in 2012. In many cases, opioids are used legitimately by individuals who suffer from chronic pain or who have recently suffered injuries or undergone surgical procedures. On the other hand, some people become addicted to opioids and seek to obtain them illegitimately. Since pain cannot be measured, prescription management can be complicated for doctors. Doug Spearman, CEO of the Ranch at Dove Tree, was recently asked to comment on the subject by the Lubbock-Avalanche Journal.
