What Is Tactical Recovery?
The goal of Tactical Recovery is to provide Veterans and First Responders with the support they need to overcome post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, and related complications. Our treatment focuses on providing you with hands-on help, practical tools, and resources that give you the individualized care you need to overcome the challenges you are facing.
What Is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious mental health condition often impacting people who experience intense, tragic events or witness them firsthand. As noted by the National Institute of Mental Health, PTSD can develop after a person experiences a scary or shocking event.
During a dangerous event, a person’s natural instinct to “fight or flight” kicks in. In the moment, the fight or flight response can save your life. However, what happens for some people is that the fight or flight response does not shut down after the event ends. Their body stays in a constant state of readiness, which is very stressful and can lead to the development of a trauma disorder like PTSD. PTSD can happen to anyone who has experienced intense traumatic events and has not had the capacity or resources to process that trauma in a healthy way.
As a First Responder or Veteran, your risk of developing PTSD is very high. In one study, about 37.8% of military personnel experienced the development of PTSD. Another study showed that 57% of firefighters suffered the effects of PTSD. PTSD can impact many people, including paramedics, police officers, investigators, and anyone else who works in life-threatening conditions.
How Does Tactical Recovery Help with PTSD?
Tactical Recovery provides specific strategies and treatment techniques to help Veterans and First Responders navigate PTSD. This includes treatment that allows you to work through the trauma in a non-threatening way. Our program incorporates several core services and tools:
- Trauma-informed therapy: At the heart of what we provide is treatment that is supportive and safe for those experiencing trauma. We help you work through the trauma to break that constant fight-or-flight feeling.
- Culturally informed: The world of First Responders and Veterans is very different from what others experience, and our practice recognizes the unique challenges our clients face. We have Veterans on our staff, and we’ll help you connect with peers who can support you during and after treatment.
- Evidence-based care: The strategies we use are shown to be effective at helping people with PTSD. We individualize your care after a thorough assessment that involves listening to your concerns and taking into account your specific circumstances.
Our Tactical Recovery program will give you the support and guidance you need to move beyond the trauma you experienced into a safer, healthier, and happier life.
We Do More Than Just Talk
It’s a misconception that talk therapy is the only treatment option for mental health concerns. While talking with a therapist is a crucial component of treatment, other therapeutic modalities can provide nuanced support that addresses your mind, body, and spirit.
- Service Member Group meets: Who understands you better than the people who have gone through similar experiences? We help you connect with people like you to share your experiences and gain strength from each other.
- EMDR treatment: This treatment aims to break the patterns trauma creates in your brain. Instead of relying on talking, EMDR uses a sequence of eye movements, tones or taps to help a person desensitize from and gain perspective on traumatic memories.
- Experiential care: We also offer equine therapy, yoga therapy, and other services that allow you to access healing in a way that’s effective for you.
Now is the best time to act. Your work is valued and necessary, but so are you, and you cannot be helpful to others when you are suffering.
